The product arrived in the mail promptly after being ordered. Haven't had to use it yet but it appears to be easy to operate in the unfortunate event of needing it.
supposedly great for kitchen, grease fire, good price
just bought this to keep in the kitchen for BC fires only (no paper or cloth). It is a 1-time use unit so the $24.50 price is well worth it I feel. I like the white color. This is exactly identical to the Kidde model "466141" unit, except that "466141" is painted red and this FX10K unit is painted white, but otherwise exactly identical in size, agent contents, labelling, nozzle type.

I bought this item based on reviews of kitchen fire extinquishers in Cook's Illustrated. Luckily, I haven't had occasion to try it out. It is primarily for use on grease/cooking fires, not advised for paper.
dying extinguisher Kiddie FX10K
The extinguisher a Bi carb filled 3.3 lb unit was purchased for 2008 Christmas and has been hanging on our kitchen wall for just a year. The pressure gage on this SN# B-982906 has slowly gone from Green "Full" to 1/2 red "Discharge". The unit has a one time safety catch that breaks when pulled, a tell tale indication that the unit has been used. The tab is intact and the unit has never been used. Now I have to buy another.Instructions are written in 2 point type, white ink on gray background whose first instruction is "READ THE OWNERS MANUAL AND EXTINGUISHER LABEL" in larger 4 point caps. This is in larger type not because it is instructional but because it is a challenge to that which follows; the instructions . I am disappointed in Kiddie's quality or design and in the UL seal.I doubt the UL ever read the label. Made in Mexico, their quality is lacking in this unit.

I have a rather small kitchen with only one stove. This extinguisher is huge for a space that is less than a professional kitchen. I know that if a problem comes up I will be glad that I have it, but I really don't have a place to put it, and if I leave it out, it's taking up valuable space. I do have a smaller kitchen extinguisher this was going to replace but I will keep the older one. The older one is about 1/3 the size.
I guess it comes down to the size, do you have the space? Do you really need one of these when a smaller more compact one could do?
So in closing, I gave this a four star rating as I really don't know how well this will work (and hope to never know). The packaging was adequate, shipping was fast, the extinguisher arrived fully charged, has a mounting plate and looks like I could put out a forest fire. I will recommend this if you have the space and need for a big extinguisher.
